Finding Your Work Life Balance

Lifestyle, Mindset, Performance

Working hard doesn’t have to mean burning out! It is time to shift your paradigm and belief system from; if I do more, I get there faster or if I work hard enough I will successful.

Think about it that way: If working harder meant to be successful, there would be many successful people out there, right?

Become more and do less, work smarter and not harder. In order to have a clear mind, be present and sharp and able to respond rather than react, one must practice routines and maintain once mental and physical health in order to be able to operate on optimum level.

There are manageable, effective strategies you can put into place right away to help you achieve a healthier work-life balance. We all know that having an overload of commitments can zap our energy and make us feel maxed out at the end of the day. But it doesn’t have to be this way.

Here are 5 tips to get you started with:

1. Learn to let go of perfectionism give yourself space to breathe and remember that ‘good enough’ is sometimes just fine! Perfectionism is a default mode for a constant need to proof yourself. Ask yourself what and to whom are you trying to proof that you are good enough?

2. Do you know the oxygen mask analogy? Put it on first and then help others. You are no good to others if you are burning out and in the long run chronical stress will take its toll and force you to take break due to health concerns. So think more sustainable and long-term, there will be always something to do. Find a balance and take a much needed break from the hustle and bustle of daily life by unplugging and taking time for yourself. Create boundaries around how often and when you check emails, messages and notifications and switch off from technology all together on a regular basis. Plan for a digital detox.

3. Not ground-breaking new but many still don’t prioritise this enough. Exercise , healthy nutrition and meditation can help your body and mind recover, while making time for yourself to do things that make you happy will bring in more balance and help recharge your batteries. These activities can help settle your mind and improve your overall well-being. If you struggle to meditate then learn to relax, become present in the moment through mindfulness activities. Even a daily walk in the nature without your phone is a good starting point.

4. Structuring your lifestyle with conscious changes such as limiting time-wasting activities and people, and setting boundaries when necessary, will lead to feeling more fulfilled in both your personal and professional life.  Take control of your day by setting aside time to do what’s important and surrounding yourself with supportive people who will value your time.

5. It may sound like a lot to do all at once but start small – every little bit counts! Change the structure of your life – start small, build from there. Aim to make one change every few weeks, then assess and adjust your goals as you go.

Finding the right balance doesn’t have to be overwhelming. With a little dedication and a commitment to your health, you can find harmony in both your work and life!
